Frank J. Krtanjek, Jr. entered the U.S. Air Force in November 1960 at age 20. After completing basic training and technical school he was assigned to Dover AFB, Deleware as a data processing operator. He applied for OCS, and while an A/2C, was selected to attend Officer Candidate School in Class 63A scheduled to start in April 1962.
Unfortunately, after attaining first classman status, Frank failed to meet the academic standards and was returned to his enlisted status and assigned to Bolling AFB in Washington D.C. as a computer operator.
Since his work at Bolling AFB would not allow him any overseas duty he elected to take a discharge after almost 5 years service. Just prior to his discharge he married his wife Sarah (who likes to be called Sally).
Frank immediately found work with Defense Logistics Agency in Alexandria, Virginia. He remained employed with them as a computer programmer and Computer Systems Analyst, highest grade GM-14, from August 1965 to February 1996.
After 37 years service Frank decided it was time to retire. He and Sally had one boy and one girl. Frank earned almost three years of college by the time he retired. He and Sally call Fort Washington, Maryland home in the summer and Mesa, Arizona as home in the winter.
